At playgroup yesterday Ben got to experience a Wee Can Cook! class for the first time. Considering what excellent help he is in the kitchen, I was not at all surprised that he loved making his strawberry parfait!
Miss Shari started out the class by laying down a couple of ground rules, with the most important one being that the kids were in charge. This meant that Ben got to cut the strawberries all by himself (with a plastic knife!) and I was not allowed to tell him how to layer his parfait! Then she read one of Ben's current favorites, The Little Mouse, The Red Ripe Strawberry, and The Big Hungry Bear. Ben was pretty impressed with her huge version on this book!
After this, the kids were given instructions on how to make their Strawberry Disguise Parfaits. The object was to hide their strawberries in the parfait so that the Big Hungry Bear could not find them. It was a really cute idea and it was so fun to watch the kids making their snacks.
Ben did a great job dumping in the yogurt and crunching the graham crackers, but there was one concept that he had a really hard time grasping. Each child had a partner who they shared a bowl of yogurt with. Ben could not understand why it was NOT okay to taste a little sample of yogurt and then double dip his spoon back in! The guiltiness is smeared all over his mouth!

The best part of any cooking class is getting to eat the finished product!!
